Summary, etc. | The EU’s policy towards Ukraine contained three major flaws: it disregarded the warnings of possible harsh reactions from Russia; it did not carefully analyze Ukraine’s complicated domestic situation; and it was quite insensitive towards the question of the possible negative consequences the association agreement might have on the EU itself. Three explanations are provided to explain these flaws. The article ends with a policy proposal for a new EU approach towards Ukraine and Russia. |
