| Summary, etc. | Cet article traite des difficultés auxquelles les adolescents et les jeunes adultes doivent faire face dans leur acquisition de la mémoire de la guerre civile sierra-léonaise. Nés après la fin du conflit, les membres de cette nouvelle génération sont séparés de leurs aînés par un fossé de l’expérience qu’il leur est souvent difficile de combler. Dans le cadre d’une guerre intracommunautaire et ultraviolente, les jeunes se heurtent souvent au silence de ceux qui ne veulent ou ne peuvent transmettre les récits de leurs expériences de guerre. Face aux barrières érigées par leurs aînés, ils développent des stratégies d’évitement et de contournement dans le cadre d’une enquête qui vient elle-même remuer une mémoire complexe et conflictuelle. |

| Summary, etc. | This article is about the difficulties faced by adolescents and young adults in the transmission of memory of the Sierra Leonean civil war. Born after the conflict, members of this new generation are separated from their elders by a large gulf symbolizing their lack of experience. In the context of a civil war that saw the deployment of extreme violence, the youth is often faced by the silence of those who would not or could not share the narratives of their experience of the war. To overcome those barriers erected by their elders, they deploy strategies and agency in the context of an ethnographic research that stirs this complex and conflictual memory. |
