Summary, etc. Marc-André Bloch est un pédagogue de « note de bas de page », souvent cité pour sa Philosophie de l’éducation nouvelle, mais dont l’œuvre reste méconnue. Pour le sortir de l’obscurité, l’article présente les origines familiales de ce professeur de philosophie, cousin germain de l’historien Marc Bloch, ainsi que les conditions d’élaboration de sa thèse de philosophie morale, rédigée pour partie sous l’Occupation. Au fil de ses échanges avec le CNRS nous découvrons que son intérêt pour l’éducation nouvelle n’est pas seulement porté par un engagement en faveur de la réforme de l’enseignement, mais qu’il est aussi le fruit d’une interrogation sur la nature et les sources du jugement moral développée dans sa thèse principale intitulée Les tendances et la vie morale.

Summary, etc. Marc-André Bloch is a “footnote” educationalist, often cited for his Philosophie de l’éducation nouvelle, but whose work remains little known. To bring him out of obscurity, this article presents the family origins of this philosophy professor, first cousin of the historian Marc Bloch, as well as the conditions under which he wrote his thesis on moral philosophy, part of which was written during the Occupation. Through his exchanges with the CNRS, we discover that his interest in progressive education was not only driven by a commitment to educational reform, but was also the result of an exploration of the nature and sources of moral judgment developed in his main thesis entitled Les tendances et la vie morale.
