| Summary, etc. | En este trabajo defenderemos que vincular el análisis de la desigualdad de sexos a la discusión sobre la fundamentación de la política, no únicamente en relación al debate sobre las capacidades naturales y morales de las mujeres, ofrece una comprensión más cabal de Feijoo. En ese sentido, compararemos su pensamiento sobre las mujeres con dos autores contemporáneos que él mismo cita en su trabajo : Malebranche y Poulain de la Barre. Veremos que al compararlo con su correligionario Malebranche, las tesis del benedictino resultan favorables a la mujer y le sitúan como un importante defensor español por la igualdad educativa de sexos. Sin embargo, si cotejamos su interpretación con la ofrecida por Poulain de la Barre, repararemos en que para Feijoo la dominación política de sexos se asienta en la voluntad divina, mientras que Poulain ofrece una lectura del texto bíblico del Génesis no patriarcal. |

| Summary, etc. | Whereas other interpreters of Feijoo's views about women have focused on their natural and moral capacity, I will focus here on his views on women in politics. I will contrast Feijoo's views with those of Malebranche and Poulain de la Barre, both cited in his own work. Feijoo is comparatively more positive than Malebranche about the rights of women, making him a pioneer in the defence of women's education in Spain. If we compare instead Feijoo's interpretation of Genesis with Poulain de la Barre's, we'll see that for Feijoo the inequality of sexes is based on divine will, whereas Poulain presents a non-patriarchal interpretation of the biblical text. |
