Summary, etc. ObjectiveTo train junior doctors in emergency call dispatching, we use a card set to select scenarios randomly for simulation sessions. The aim of this study was to verify that the scenarios proposed aligned with the reality of the calls handled by the French emergency medical services, SAMU 93.MethodsThe card set being evaluated consisted of 53 cards in 4 sets corresponding to: (1) the caller’s mode of communication (7 cards, referring to Snow White’s Seven Dwarfs); (2) the relationship between the caller and patient (14 cards); (3) the patient’s age (11 cards); and (4) the reason for the call (21 cards). The investigators were recently trained junior doctors (N=7) and a supervisor. On consecutive calls, they recorded the patient’s age and gender, the caller’s relationship with the patient, his or her mode of communication, and the reason for the call (multiple responses possible). The objective was to study 250 calls.ResultsA total of 328 consecutive calls were covered by 6 investigators: 150 men (46%) and 178 women (54%), with a median age of 41 (23–68). Callers in descending order: the patient (28%), a carer (16%), and a teacher (11%). Five cards were added. Communication mode in descending order: “normal” (45%), “Dopey” (16%), and “Bashful” (12%). Reason for call: 70 reasons, including abdominal pain (11%), chest pain (10%), and fall from a height (10%). Trauma accounted for 73 calls (22%). Twelve cards were added.ConclusionThis study validated a realistic card set that aligns with the activities of SAMU 93 to determine the scenarios for simulation sessions, with 51,205 possible combinations. This game could be generalized and adapted to local specificities.
