Summary, etc. As the development of communications and mobility favours population flows and the emergence of new rural activities, the village becomes the scene of appropriation conflicts, between various social groups attracted to the countryside for its residential, recreational, cultural and natural qualities. Three Greek villages, located in the mountain, the plain and on the coast, are used as illustrations to portray the multiple aspirations, interests and investments manifested. The new social and economic reality of a modern village is revealed through the conflict situations as testified in the above case studies.
