| Summary, etc. | BackgroundOral anticoagulants generate a burden of care that can affect the patient’s quality of life. The concept of treatment burden measures the impact of medical care on the patient’s quality of life. Various factors can exacerbate the burden. Several studies have assessed the satisfaction of patients treated with oral anticoagulants.ObjectiveThis study assesses the burden of patients treated with oral anticoagulants.MethodsAn analytical cross-sectional study of patients recruited from pharmacies in the Loire. A questionnaire was carried out using the anti-clot treatment scale, to assess satisfaction, and the Zarit scale, to assess the burden on carers of patients with a mental illness.ResultsAnticoagulants were a burden for 41% (n = 158) of the 389 responding patients. The burden of anticoagulants was higher when oral anticoagulants were responsible for side effects, anxiety, or lifestyle changes.ConclusionThe patients were satisfied with the benefits of the treatment and its practical modalities. They described changes to lifestyle habits as contributing to the treatment burden. |
