Summary, etc. Prison population is characterized by its “youth,” since the average age of prisoners is 34.3 years. However, over recent decades, prison administration has seen a significant increase in inmates aged fifty years or older. How is the ageing of the body understood in prison? This paper shows that prisoners’ bodies are at the intersection of physical vulnerability and social vulnerability. Nevertheless, it shows how prisoners cope with signs of the ageing body and deploy protective tactics against others.
