| Summary, etc. | The transition to retirement can result in a new relationship with domestic space, as is particularly the case with the retirees in this study who were engaged in voluntary work or who continue to work. Indeed, retirement can deprive the individual of a public space outside of the home and can confine them to the private domestic sphere that they will progressively need to redefine. This article aims to understand how individuals going through a transition in life—retirement, in this case—can comprehend it through a double reconfiguration: of time and of space. What spaces do they re-invest? What are the processes involved in the redistribution of spaces within the domestic setting, as well as with the exterior environment? We hypothesize that reorganization of domestic spaces is influenced by reorganization of the lifestyle of recently retired people. Thus, this article focuses on two areas of activity: voluntary work and remunerated work by retired people, which can have a positive or a negative impact on the domestic setting. |
