Summary, etc. Since 2000, with the media coverage of the French “Maison des Babayagas” project, the topic of self-managed senior shared housing has become popular in the academic world, as well as among professionals and the general public. But these experiments face many difficulties, particularly in the successful achievement of the project. In a comparative view based on a very specific model, the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, this article discusses the different ways of “communal life” that are established in senior shared housing projects. Living together is revolved around autonomy and solidarity, and determined by the different life paths of residents.
