520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. In 1999, a caricature evoking Italian Comunist Party (PCI) secret fundings from KGB provoked a conflict between Prime Minister M. D’Alema and G. Forattini, the caricaturist. This affair is here analysed as a symptom of current changes within Italian society. The debate involved by this caricature published in the daily newspaper la Repubblica (Rome) shows the political impact of this kind of satire, far from more inoffensive mockery. This harsh controversy also allows to enlighten one essential aspect of currently and tacitly required know-how among politicians, namely auto-irony. In this context, M. D’Alema coming from a former party system was in an unstable position.
