| Summary, etc. | The conflict in Ukraine is a catalyst for the dynamics driving the defense ecosystem. In questioning the frontiers of the defense industry, this article focuses on the interactions between public and private players and the evolution of different modes of innovation. Two markets with very different characteristics are highlighted. The first is the “traditional” market, specialized in major equipment and concentrated on a small number of players due to barriers to entry. A second, so-called “emerging” market, completes the supply side of the market with players often coming from the civilian sector, fewer barriers to entry, and in which new firms can easily emerge. This distinction highlights recent developments within this ecosystem and identifies the different strategies adopted by players, particularly in terms of innovation. |

| Summary, etc. | Le conflit en Ukraine est un catalyseur des dynamiques qui animent l’écosystème de défense. En questionnant les frontières de l’industrie de défense, cet article s’intéresse plus particulièrement aux interactions entre les acteurs publics et privés et à l’évolution des différents modes d’innovation. Deux marchés aux caractéristiques très différentes sont mis en avant. Un premier marché « traditionnel » est spécialisé dans les équipements majeurs et concentré autour d’un petit nombre d’acteurs à cause de barrières à l’entrée. Un second marché, dit « émergent », complète l’offre existante avec des acteurs bien souvent issus du civil, moins de barrières à l’entrée et sur lequel des entreprises peuvent émerger facilement. Cette distinction met en évidence les évolutions récentes au sein de cet écosystème et identifie les différentes stratégies des acteurs, notamment en matière d’innovation. |
