| Summary, etc. | Fifteen years of broad collaboration have made the Danish Sound Toll Registers, a unique source for European maritime history that covers almost four centuries, available to all in electronic format. The paper outlines the entire process from the creation of a relational database all the way to the finalization of data entry in a volunteer project, and the publication and maintenance of the Sound Toll Registers Online (STRO) database. The paper provides valuable insights about some of the issues that the project encountered along the way and highlights recent efforts to process non-standardized data items in STRO, such as units of measurement and their equivalents in the metric system. |
