| Summary, etc. | RésuméFaire du terrain en « situation coloniale » révèle le type de relations tissées entre ethnologie et géographie. Si les traditions scientifiques sont différentes, les difficultés rencontrées et le nombre croissant, dans les années cinquante, de scientifiques à l’œuvre sur le terrain – grâce à un étoffement des institutions de recherche en aof – contribuent au rapprochement des deux disciplines, sans que la pluridisciplinarité soit vraiment pensée. Dans la variété des travaux produits par ces deux disciplines – de l’expertise à la critique de la « situation coloniale » –, se jouent des clivages disciplinaires. Le « terrain colonial » est en effet une condition particulière de mise au jour d’expériences, choix et engagements moraux ou politiques des scientifiques, qui peuvent ainsi disposer ou forger de nouvelles hypothèses pour appréhender leur terrain et sont susceptibles d’en renouveler la lecture. Malgré ces convergences, en partie liées au même contexte colonial, les disciplines ethnologiques et géographiques ne se sont pas vraiment engagées dans un projet pluridisciplinaire à l’issue des années cinquante. |

| Summary, etc. | Doing field research in a « colonial siuation » reveals the relations existing between ethnology and geography. In spite of different scientific traditions both disciplines were brought closer to each other through the difficulties they encountered and through their field researchers – in increasing number due to the development of research institutions in French West Africa in the fifties –, but they did not really develop a pluridisciplinary reflexion. The various works produced in both disciplines – from experts’ works to critical reviews of the colonial situation let appear divisions between them. The « colonial field » is peculiar in that it enables researchers to bring to light their experiences, choices and moral or political commitments and thus to dispose of or elaborate new hypotheses to grasp their field and possibly reinterpret it. In spite of these convergences, partly due to a same colonial context, were the ethnologic and geographic disciplines not really involved in a pluridisciplinary project at the end of the fifties. |

| Summary, etc. | ZusammenfassungFeldforschung machen in einer « kolonialer Lage » lässt die Beziehungen erkennen, die zwischen Ethnologie und Geographie bestehen. Trotz ihrer verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen Traditionen wurden beide Fächer durch ihre Schwierigkeiten und ihre Forscher nähergebracht – letzere in znehmender Zahl wegen der Entwicklung von Forschungsanstalten in den fünfziger Jahren im französichem Westafrika – aber ohne dass sie tatsächlich eine interdisziplinäre Reflexion entwickelten. Die mannifaltige Literatur in beiden Disziplinen – von den Fachschriften bis zu den Kritiken der kolonialen Lage – lässt Spaltungen zwischen ihnen erkennen. Das « koloniale Feld » ist darin eigentümlich, dass es den Forschern ermöglicht, ihre Erfahrungen, Wähle und moralische oder politische Verpflichtungen aufzuzeigen und so über neue Hypothesen zu verfügen oder neue zu erstellen, um ihr Feld begreifen oder reinterpretieren zu können. Trotz dieser Konvergenzen, die teilweise demselben kolonialen Kontext zuzuschreiben sind, hatten sich die ethnologische und geographische Disziplinen am Ende der fünfziger Jahren nicht wirklich für ein interdisziplinäres Projekt eingesetzt. |
