| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | This article explores what an ethnographic fieldwork reveals about the dynamics of secrecy, unspoken elements, and silence in 30 same-sex parent families in France. Based on a research conducted between 2016 and 2024, it highlights how these dimensions are woven into the narratives of both same-sex parents and their children. Same-sex parents adopt various strategies—such as avoiding sensitive topics or exerting control over the family narrative—to protect their children from stigma or rejection, sometimes from their own relatives and/or from the broader society. They may also conceal certain aspects of their family trajectory. In turn, children reinterpret and reclaim their family stories, adjusting what they choose to share or withhold depending on their social environment and relationships. The ethnographer, as a third party, opens a space for discussion that allows to address family matters more freely, often leading family members to voice what typically remains secret or unspoken. |
