520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This article investigates the experiences of international students, both undergraduates and postgraduates, at several universities in New Zealand1, the University of Oxford and the Charles University. The focus is on students’ personal growth and the development of identities as an outcome of mobility, which has both social and economic connotations. According to empirical findings, study abroad has contributed to the personal growth of individuals which is in line with students’ motivations and expectations in regards to foreign experience. Furthermore, international students over time enhanced mostly their local and cosmopolitan identities within a plethora of affiliations. The data originates from a PhD thesis, which is based on a longitudinal study (2010 to 2014) and comprises of anonymous on-line questionnaires (n = 563), followed by face-to-face semi-structured interviews (n = 90) and twelve consecutive on-line diary-type surveys (n = 81 to 44), leading to a semi-structured Skype interview (n = 46) and final email survey (n = 39). |
