Maupassant se penche sur la question hystérique : « Qu’est-ce qu’une femme ? », cherche la femme pour constater l’absence de réponse à la question et ne rencontre que des femmes. Tristesse et consommation vont être alors les piliers de la quête désirante de Maupassant. |
