| Summary, etc. | What are the implications of Patrick Tort’s hypothesis that capitalism, and the civilization it stems from, are by nature hypertelic? In the scientific domain, the term “hypertely” refers to the overdevelopment of an anatomical structure that is disadvantageous to the organism. Patrick Tort’s analysis, however, proposes a new understanding of the term, connoting a dual mechanism of fragilization and overcompensation. From the naturalistic point of view, this dual mechanism is found in the process of civilization, which corresponds to the rational transformation by the human species of its natural environment into a “survival aid.” The rational faculties of the human species, overcompensating an inherent organic weakness, can then therefore be described as “hypertelic.” What lessons can be drawn from the evolution of this dual mechanism within civilization when studying it through the lens of the dynamics of economic systems on a global scale? What is the link between rationality and capitalist economy? |
