520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The mouth is a crossroads of functions to be constructed in the relationship during development. The fetus already has sensory and movement experiences in the mouth, to smell, taste, tactility explore the environment, its own body, and the umbilical cord. He tastes the scent of amniotic fluid, lapping, swallowing, sucking his thumb. He touches his mouth with his hands. Explorations and experiments with the mouth contribute to the first tonic dialogues. General body movements prepare the mouth for its communicative function and transform into addressed movements between 3 and 5 months after birth. Communication movements through the gaze, mouth, hands, and feet are often correlated and are facilitated by good support of the back. The mouth is more stable in the body image when verticality is acquired, which is accomplished by emotionally engaged shared experiences, in synchrony. When the relationship is undermined by sensory disorders in autistic children, the mouth struggles to be constructed in a stable way in the image of the body, the mouth is poorly populated or overinvested. This has an impact on food selectivity, on exploration, on its relational and communication functions, and on the emergence of language both in bodily gestures as verbal. ASD children can be supported to promote the construction of these functions despite their oral disorders.
