Summary, etc. | The aim of this paper is to propose to the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) a mechanism for setting interest rates that yields a compromise between macro and micro monetary objectives. More specifically, we propose that it would be beneficial for the Bank to adopt a simple monetary rule, and we show that the most suitable rule in terms of compatibility with macro and micro objectives is one that assigns the highest weight to the behavior of the Central Bank. In addition, we propose an explanation for the autoregressive behavior of the Bank and we show that, for carefully chosen reasons, the Taylor rule gives rise to efficient policies. |
