| Summary, etc. | Cette publication se propose de faire connaître la carrière très riche du géologue G.B.M. Flamand dans le contexte violent de l’occupation française du Sahara, notamment dans la région de In-Salah (1900). Dans une première partie, les auteurs rapportent la biographie de ce géologue polyvalent puisqu’il traite de la géologie mais aussi de géomorphologie, de minéralogie, de paléontologie, d’hydrogéologie, de cartographie, etc. Si ses carnets de terrain montrent des visites dans le nord de l’Algérie, ses publications les plus nombreuses sont consacrées principalement au domaine saharien. G. Flamand a écrit, et parfois illustré, des ouvrages destinés à faire connaître le milieu saharien, mais sa thèse est une énorme source documentaire portant sur le sud-oranais. Ses collections de fossiles sont riches avec des espèces de référence décrites pour la première fois en paléontologie. G. Flamand est aussi un passionné de préhistoire et ses travaux demeurent une référence pour les chercheurs. G. Aumassip traite de la valeur et des nouveautés indéniables apportées dans ce domaine et, par des exemples précis, elle détaille la qualité des observations de ce chercheur et les progrès qui en découlent. Une liste des travaux de G. Flamand termine ce document. Elle est destinée à montrer l’abondance et la diversité des publications de cet auteur. Certaines sont peu connues, d’autres ont été publiées dans plusieurs revues. |

| Summary, etc. | This publication aims to present the remarkably rich career of the geologist G.B.M. Flamand within the violent context of the French occupation of the Sahara, particularly in the In-Salah region (around 1900). In the first part, the authors refer to the biography of this versatile geologist whose work was concerned with geology as well as geomorphology, mineralogy, paleontology, hydrogeology, cartography, etc. If his field notebooks show visits to northern Algeria, his most numerous publications are mainly dedicated to the Saharan region. G. Flamand wrote, and sometimes illustrated, works aimed at promoting awareness of the Saharan environment but his thesis is an enormous documentary source on the Southern Oran. His fossil collections are rich with reference species described for the first time in paleontology. G. Flamand was also passionate about prehistory and his work remains a reference for researchers. G. Aumassip discusses the undeniable value and innovations brought to this field and, with precise examples, details the quality of Flamand’s observations and the progress that results from them. A list of G. Flamand’s works concludes this document. It is intended to show the abundance and diversity of his publications. Some are little known, while others were published in several journals. |
