| Summary, etc. | Cet article élargit la Théorie de la justice de John Rawls afin d’esquisser une société dans laquelle des citoyen·ne·s libres œuvrent ensemble, au sein de principes de justice politique, à la soutenabilité écologique et sociale de leur coopération. Le cadre conceptuel du « Donut » de l’économiste écologique Kate Raworth est utilisé pour proposer un principe supplémentaire, appelé « Principe de durabilité », lexicographiquement prioritaire sur les deux principes rawlsiens classiques (Principe d’égale liberté, Principe de différence). L’une des implications principales de ce nouveau principe est que la notion de « circonstances de la justice » doit être étendue aux réalités environnementales (pollution, raréfaction des ressources, overshoot écologique, etc.), de telle sorte que la décroissance économique devient une partie intégrante d’une théorie rawlsienne pour l’anthropocène. Quant aux objections quant à la prétendue non-faisabilité psychologique et politique de la décroissance, elles doivent être évaluée à la lumière d’une révision de la notion de citoyenneté libre et égale sous voile d’ignorance, que cet article détaille également en montrant que les savoirs écologiques doivent faire partie des connaissances de base mobilisées par les citoyen·ne·s libres dans leur délibération sur les principes de justice. |

| Summary, etc. | This article expands and broadens John Rawls’ Theory of Justice to outline a society in which free citizens work together, within principles of political justice, towards the ecological and social sustainability of their cooperation. The conceptual framework of the “Donut” by ecological economist Kate Raworth is used to propose an additional principle, called the “Principle of Sustainability,” which takes lexicographic precedence over the two classic Rawlsian principles (Equal Basic Liberties, Difference Principle). One of the main implications of this new principle is that the notion of “circumstances of justice” must be extended to environmental realities (pollution, resource scarcity, ecological overshoot, etc.), so that economic degrowth becomes an integral part of a Rawlsian theory for the Anthropocene. As for objections regarding the alleged psychological and political unfeasibility of degrowth, they must be evaluated in light of a revision of the notion of free and equal citizenship behind the veil of ignorance, which this article also details by showing that ecological knowledge must be part of the basic knowledge mobilized by free citizens in their deliberations on the principles of justice. |
