| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Aim The aetiologies of hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) remain a controversy in the literature. The aim of the present study is to contribute to the debate and to offer suggestions about improving the health care of HG individuals. Method Forty one women with HG were examined in the obstetrics and gynaecology ward of Ouagadougou Teaching Hospital in Burkina Faso. They were administered questionnaires assessing psychosocial and socio-demographic variables. Each patient was interviewed twice ; the second day on admission and 48 hours after admission to the ward. We took 3 months to collect the 41 cases. Results The results revealed many psychosocial factors that may influence the onset of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. These factors include family conflicts, economic status, low level of education, age and the sibling position of the mother. Our results are consistent with previous findings. We suggest that regular psychological review should be considered as an important part of the care of the pregnant woman. |
