Summary, etc. Medically assisted reproduction (MAR) with a third-party donor has been known about and practiced since the nineteenth century. In France, insemination practices have existed in a clandestine manner and with little supervision since the 1950s, but the first center for the study and preservation of eggs and sperm (Centre d’étude et de conservation des œufs et du sperme, Cecos) was opened in 1973, to oversee in particular the activity of sperm donation. Egg donation began in 1985, and embryo reception in 2003. In 1994, the promulgation of the first bioethics law included the anonymity of gamete donation in the French Public Health Code, and this point remained unchanged in the 2004 and 2011 revisions of the law. The revision of August 2, 2021 brings major modifications concerning the access for donor offspring to information about the donor. This requires clear and precise information to be given to future parents on the one hand, so that they can explain the situation to their future child, and to donors on the other hand. We present the practical aspects of these new measures, and the questions and reflections they raise among professionals.
