Drawing on the Fulbright archives, this article highlights transformations in the objectives of student and academic mobility during the Cold War. It also explores the practical difficulties that shaped the popular internationalization of knowledge, the specificities of the bureaucratic sorting and ranking mechanisms implemented during this period, and the complex relationship between the objectives of the United States and those of the other countries involved. |
