Summary, etc. La personne âgée en Afrique est l’interface entre le monde des vivants et celui des morts. Cette place privilégiée lui confère des devoirs et des droits. Sa maladie est l’affaire de toute sa famille. A partir des cas cliniques documentés, les auteurs ont engagé une réflexion sur les facteurs psychologique et culturels intervenant dans la compréhension, le vécu et l’interprétation de la maladie mentale du sujet âgé. L’itinéraire thérapeutique qui passe obligatoirement par la médecine traditionnelle est dicté par la compréhension et le vécu de la maladie par En famille. Le recours à la médecine moderne est une étape de la démarche de soins qui prend en compte le cours de la vie du sujet âgé malade pour comprendre et identifier l’origine réelle ou supposée des troubles. La collaboration entre les deux médecines est souhaitable pour des soins de santé mentale de qualité en Afrique.
