Summary, etc. This paper sheds light on the way social media is used by Members of the European Parliament (MEP) to reinvigorate forms of commitment to Europe. It argues that social media does not fundamentally alter traditional practices of political communication or the relationship between MEP and citizens. Journalists and party members are still the preferred publics on social media; however, the norms of diffusion and circulation of messages have changed without really calling into question the established media system. Although public discourse tends to present social media as an innovative tool for democracy, communication remains mostly the same: Political actors reintegrate communication practices that preexisted social media platforms.
