Summary, etc. Practicing hypnosis transforms a natural ability into a therapeutic tool that is more and more commonly used in many clinical settings. This article is a review of the different applications of hypnosis and recent research in the perinatal field. There are multiple possible applications ranging from the preconceptual to the postpartum period. Even though results may diverge concerning the benefit of hypnosis for the use of analgesics or reported pain during childbirth, there seems to be powerful evidence now for the contribution of hypnosis to a better subjective experience of birth, pregnancy, and the perinatal period overall by improving women’s emotional state and well-being. However, the practice of hypnosis in complicated pregnancies involving multiple psychological and physical repercussions remains to be explored. It appears to be a very promising field of application and avenue of future research on hypnosis.
