520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. In spite of the lack of up-to-date data brought in Togo, the use of injectable drugs presents considerable risks. The aim of this work is to estimate the risks incurred by the users of injectable drugs (UIDs) in Togo, starting from the profile of, and the consumption and practices adopted by, users. The study focused on 164 UIDs from Togo (89.63% men and 10.37% women), median age 36.29 years. The results indicate in 30% of the cases that UIDs share injection equipment between their peers and 53.66% reuse this equipment for new injections. The prevalence of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) is estimated at 29.26%, and only 26.83% had had the human immuno-deficiency virus (HIV) screening test and knew their serological status. In addition, there exists a strong link between the health risks related to the reuse of equipment of injections and the profile of UIDs. Likewise there is a significant link noted between the sharing of injection equipment and the frequency and the practice injecting. Lastly, the UIDs who began their drug taking at an early age were more inclined to share and reuse equipment for new injections. Thus, it is advisable to carry out an effective fight to of reduce risks, on the one hand through the evaluation and actualization of the policies of risk reduction being put into practice in Togo, and on the other hand through the adoption of project ERLI (education regarding the risks related to injection).
