| Summary, etc. | The increase in binge drinking as a common pattern of alcohol abuse in young women poses risks in terms of unintended pregnancies, as well as risks for future babies. The use of quantitative data to assess binge drinking in women around the mean ages of maternity – 25 to 34 – are scarce in France. Analysing posts on internet forums makes it possible to conclude that young women tend to play with the norms by combining binge drinking at the beginning of their pregnancies, before recognition that they are pregnant, with abstinence when their pregnancies are recognized. On the one hand, the reconstruction of norms is legitimized by health professionals’ discourse, “insisting more on moderation than on abstinence”. On the other hand, there is a lack of investment in this issue in terms of prevention and public policies, which are already struggling to obtain a consensus around the norm of abstinence: “no alcohol during pregnancy”. |
