| Summary, etc. | RésuméL’objectif de cette recherche était d’évaluer les conséquences d’une interaction simultanée avec plusieurs systèmes d’information (système de navigation et téléphone mobile). Les performances de conduite de 16 conducteurs âgés (62 à 78 ans) ont été évaluées et comparées à celles obtenues par 16 conducteurs plus jeunes (34 à 47 ans). Les participants ont été invités à conduire un véhicule sur route ouverte tout en utilisant un système ou les deux simultanément. Les performances ont été analysées lors de manœuvres en intersection. Les résultats ont montré un effet global de l’âge et de la condition d’utilisation des systèmes (conjointe ou non), mais pas d’interaction entre les deux. Ces résultats révèlent de plus mauvaises performances pour le groupe des conducteurs âgés comparé aux plus jeunes, de plus mauvaises performances quand les deux systèmes sont utilisés simultanément que lorsqu’un seul est utilisé, mais un impact similaire des deux conditions d’utilisation des systèmes dans les deux groupes d’âge. Les conclusions doivent toutefois être modérées compte tenu de l’expérience limitée qu’avaient les conducteurs de l’utilisation du système de navigation. |

| Summary, etc. | The aim of this research was to analyse the consequences of interacting with more than one in-vehicle information system (a navigation system and a mobile phone). The performance of 16 elderly drivers (62 to 78 years old) was evaluated and compared to the performance of 16 younger drivers (34 to 47 years old). Subjects were asked to drive a vehicle in a real road and to interact with one and two systems simultaneously. The drivers’ performance was analysed for intersection manœuvres. Results showed a global effect of age and system condition (one system and two systems used simultaneously) but no interaction between age and system condition. These results reveal worse performances for the older group compared with the younger one, worse performances when both systems are used simultaneously than when only one is used, but a similar impact of the two system conditions in the two age groups. Conclusions drawn should be moderated due to the limited experience of the participants with the navigation systems. |
