| Summary, etc. | Les auteurs retracent 150 ans d’histoire d’Addictions France et de ses enjeux depuis la création en 1872 de l’Association française contre l’abus des boissons alcooliques portée par le courant hygiéniste et social devant le constat des conséquences sanitaires et sociales de la consommation d’alcool dans le contexte de la Révolution industrielle, de la défaite de 1870 et de la Commune de Paris, et de l’évolution scientifique de la médecine. Renommée Société Française de Tempérance et reconnue d’utilité publique en 1880, son approche pragmatique près de la science et par la « tempérance » a permis d’éviter les échecs du prohibitionnisme. Constituant la Ligue Nationale Contre l’Alcoolisme (LNCA) en 1905 avec les mouvements anti-alcooliques, ses campagnes d’information et son plaidoyer pour diverses mesures se heurtèrent au lobby des alcooliers. Remobilisée après la Seconde Guerre mondiale dans le contexte d’une réalcoolisation progressive de la France, elle devient le Comité National de Défense Contre l’Alcoolisme (CNDCA) en 1949, implante ses Comités départementaux, professionnalise ses activités de prévention grâce au soutien de la Sécurité sociale, puis le soin aux personnes en difficulté avec l’alcool à partir de 1970. Renommée Association Nationale de Prévention de l’Alcoolisme en 1985 puis Association Nationale de Prévention en Alcoologie et Addictologie avec l’extension de ses missions à l’ensemble des addictions à partir des années 2000, elle constitue aujourd’hui sous sa nouvelle dénomination une association de référence en addictologie. Forte d’une expérience incomparable qui lui permet d’affronter les nouveaux défis, fidèle à l’esprit et l’engagement de ses fondateurs, « près de la science » et non prohibitionniste, acteur de prévention, de la réduction des risques et des dommages, et de santé publique, Addictions France est aujourd’hui une association de référence en addictologie, qui contribue à la construction d’une société plus juste et durable où les addictions ne sont ni un tabou ni une fatalité. |

| Summary, etc. | The authors trace 150 years of history of Addictions France and its challenges since the creation in 1872 of the French Association against Alcohol Abuse, driven by the hygienist and social movement in response to the health and social consequences of alcohol consumption in the context of the Industrial Revolution, the defeat of 1870 and the Paris Commune, and the scientific evolution of medicine. Renamed the French Temperance Society and recognized as a public utility in 1880, its pragmatic approach based on science and “temperance” made it possible to avoid the failures of prohibitionism. Forming the National League Against Alcoholism (LNCA) in 1905 with anti-alcohol movements, its information campaigns and advocacy for various measures were met with resistance from the alcohol lobby. Remobilized after the Second World War in the context of a gradual return to alcohol consumption in France, it became the National Committee for the Defense Against Alcoholism (CNDCA) in 1949, established its departmental committees, professionalized its prevention activities with the support of the Social Security system, and then began caring for people with alcohol problems in 1970. Renamed the National Association for the Prevention of Alcoholism in 1985, then the National Association for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Addiction with the extension of its missions to all addictions from the 2000s onward, it is now, under its new name, a leading association in the field of addiction.
