| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | The Leibnizian thesis about the nature of motion is not without ambiguities. On the one hand, Leibniz holds a relativist conception of motion, based on the principle of equivalence of hypotheses; on the other, he tends to admit of absolute motion through his conception of active force. However, he supposes absolute motion as explaining the heterogeneity of phenomena, and he accounts for the determination of a subject of motion by applying the principle de maximis et minimis to the formulation of the most intelligible or simple hypothesis, which seems to imply that force owns an inherent architectonic disposition. |
