Summary, etc. Footwear is one of the most important influences on the biomechanics and kinematics of the lower limb. Military footwear, such as combat boots, is designed to protect the foot, attenuate shock when striking it, and control the foot’s lateral movement. However, such footwear has a number of design properties that can lead to biomechanical changes.The increased weight of footwear, often found in combat boots, has long been associated with increased energy expenditure and postural instability. This is the result of the extra load added to the soldier’s foot. These boots can also have a significant influence on gait patterns by restricting foot movements. This restriction can lead to increased stress at the ankle, knee, and hip, as well as reduced energy absorption during the stance phase. In addition, the stiffness of the sole in the forefoot region of combat boots plays an important role in the metatarsophalangeal joint and the ankle joint along the stance phase. Combat boots do not optimize the transmission of stress and can lead, in the long term, to a high risk of injuries and musculoskeletal disorders. On the other hand, combat boots can limit proprioception of the foot, thus influencing the soldier’s static and dynamic balance performance.The combat boot is a factor of great biomechanical importance, as it is intimately linked to the soldier’s foot. However, it should be borne in mind that combat boots must protect the soldier’s feet not only from environmental hazards, but also from biomechanical stress when walking or running.
