Summary, etc. Visibility is a category that is closely related to the digital. While on the one hand, it is a condition for participation in the social life of a community via digital platforms; on the other hand, it is not simply an indiscriminate use of technological tools. Indeed, it is modulated because of personal choices of the user as a hybridization between online and offline, which can be extended from excessive exposure to voluntary disconnection. It appears then that the overexposure that can be observed on the web is only a consequence—by excess or by default—of the expression of a desire to be present, to exhibit oneself. On the contrary, there are cases where the impossibility of avoiding excess visibility does not depend directly on the user concerned, but relates entirely to his or her other contacts. Such is the case of the deceased, be they celebrities or anonymous dead, who sometimes remain visible on the web despite themselves, and whose digital visibility and “Digital Afterlife” are managed by those who survive them.
