Summary, etc. | In the second half of the 17th century, by pursuing a policy of glory, the consulate of Lyon magnified its importance, appearing on the walls of public buildings, in the churches, city squares, and the streets. The epigraphic discourse of the city was reinforced by a work published in 1669: L’éloge historique de la ville de Lyon by Claude-François Ménestrier. This book lists all consular inscriptions. This paper analyzes the links between this book’s writer and political authority. |
