| Summary, etc. | This article presents a review of literature on children who have witnessed or have been exposed to conjugal homicide. Statistical data from various countries (Australia, Canada, Israel, South Africa, the United States) show that between 40% and 70% of murdered women were killed by their spouse, ex-spouse or boy-friend. Moreover, only 4% male murder victims are killed by their spouses, ex-spouses or girl-friend. There are therefore many victims of conjugal homicides. Among these one must include the children of these couples, either witnessing or exposed to the murders. Research on the impact of homicide on children has shown that children experience significant traumatic disorders over many tears subsequent to the homicide. Furthermore, it seems that among these children typically receive no help suited to their victimisation and that the effects of the trauma can, in some cases, increase substantially. |
