Summary, etc. Recent studies have found that mimicking verbal and nonverbal behavior of strangers enhance their liking toward the individual who mimicked them. An experiment was carried out during sessions of speed-dating in order to test the behavioral effect of mimicry. A young woman confederate who interacted with men during such sessions was instructed to mimicry some verbal expressions and nonverbal behaviors of the men, verbal expressions alone, nonverbal behaviors alone or never mimicked. Data showed that men evaluate more positively the dating interaction and the woman-confederate. The significance of mimicry in social communication is discussed to interpret our findings.
