Summary, etc. The United States: Change of a Superpower in the Post Cold War Context In the present context, to term the United States a super power has something in common with a truism. However, superpower is not synonymous with omnipotence. Since the end of the Cold War, and in a surrounding environment of rising anti-Americanism, the United States are going through an introspection phase related to their definition of power and to the means of using it. Despite the fact it possesses the first army in the world, the United States cannot impose their rule to the world: its freedom of action is not absolute, it is curbed by diplomatic, political and moral obligations. At a time when the American leaders have raised self dissuasion to a dogma, how does the American power react on the world?
