| Summary, etc. | Cet article explore les liens entre positions sociales et trajectoires des enfants, lorsque ces derniers présentent des problèmes identifiés dans le registre de la santé mentale ou du handicap mental. À partir d’enquêtes ethnographiques, nous analysons les trajectoires des enfants en lien avec les usages des troubles et des qualifications qui se construisent autour d’eux, notamment dans le cadre familial. Cette analyse suggère que la production de trajectoires différenciées ne doit pas être automatiquement interprétée dans le langage des inégalités. Celui-ci peut en effet abriter des formes de misérabilisme ou de normativité, dans un domaine où les transformations des institutions sont rapides et où les hiérarchies de valeurs varient fortement selon les groupes sociaux et les contextes locaux. Notre approche théorique prend en compte la structure des capitaux, les dispositions incorporées par les parents, les processus de socialisation et les configurations dans lesquelles les différenciations sociales se déploient. L’opposition classique entre classes populaires et classes supérieures se dissout alors en une multitude de fractions de classe qu’il s’agit de distinguer et de caractériser. |

| Summary, etc. | This article explores the links between social positions and children’s trajectories when the latter present problems identified in the register of mental health or mental disability. Based on ethnographic surveys, we analyse children’s trajectories in relation to the uses of disorders and qualifications that are constructed around them, particularly within the family. Our analysis suggests that the production of differentiated trajectories should not automatically be interpreted in the language of inequalities. This language may indeed harbour forms of miserabilism or normativity, in an area where institutional transformations are rapid and where value hierarchies vary greatly according to social groups and local contexts. Our theoretical approach takes into account the structure of capital, the dispositions incorporated by parents, the processes of socialisation and the configurations in which social differentiation unfolds. In so doing, the classic opposition between working classes and upper classes dissolves into a multitude of class fractions that need to be distinguished and characterized. |
