Dans le cas de Michel Crozier, un des leaders de la sociologie française après 1960, ses relations avec les États-Unis furent capitales pour expliquer la réussite de sacarrière. Ressources scientifiques, appuis académiques,inspiration intellectuelle plus générale, les États-Unis lui furent un remarquable tremplin. Mais, dans cettevie entre deux pays, la pensée de Crozier fut finalementcelle de la distance critique, aussi bien vis-à-vis de laFrance que des États-Unis. Cela explique peut-être, infine, sa relative perte de notoriété dans ces deux pays. |

For Michel Crozier – one of the leading French social scientists post-1960 – his relation to the United States was crucial for the success of his career. Providing scientific opportunities, academic support and general intellectual inspiration, the United States were to him an amazing springboard. Nevertheless, as a consequence splitting his time between these two countries, Crozier’s thought became the expression of critical distance towards both France and the United States. Ultimately, this perhaps explains his relative lack of fame on both sides of the Atlantic. |
