| Summary, etc. | Centrale au sein de la culturelle mémorielle allemande, la mémoire de la Shoah reste un impératif politique fort en République fédérale allemande, dont l’identité démocratique s’est construite en opposition absolue au nazisme. Après le déni des crimes nazis dans l’après-guerre, la réactivation du passé depuis les années 1970 participe d’une représentation politique du judaïsme considérée comme symbole de la culture républicaine du pays. Or, les nombreuses expressions de la culture mémorielle en Allemagne (musées, mémoriaux, etc.) ont souvent été sujet à polémique, dans la mesure où leur utilisation publique reflète aussi la difficulté à imprimer une logique collective à des souvenirs traumatiques irréductiblement individuels. Si les communautés judéo-allemandes renaissent depuis la Réunification, elles ne se sentent pas toujours pleinement représentées par la culture mémorielle officielle et restent réfractaires à toute instrumentalisation excessive de la mémoire. |

Following the denial of Nazi crimes in the post-war period, since the 1970s the past has begun to rear its head, leading to a political representation of Judaism as a symbol of the country’s republican culture. And yet the many expressions of memorial culture in Germany (museums, monuments, etc.) have often been the subject of controversy, insofar as their public use also reflects the difficulty of prescribing collective imagery to irremediably personal traumatic memories. Despite the revival of German-Jewish communities since the country’s reunification, these do not always feel fully represented by official memorial culture and reject the excessive memorialisation. |
