| Summary, etc. | La fin de la guerre froide a entraîné le délitement de la relation créée entre la science et la défense après la deuxième guerre mondiale. Les financements pour la recherche-développement de défense se sont taris au cours des années 1990. Les besoins en innovations et technologies des forces armées ont certes changé par rapport à la seconde moitié du XXème siècle, mais ils restent néanmoins importants pour faire face aux menaces potentielles et missions nouvelles. Un nouveau partenariat entre la défense et la science serait-il alors la solution pour conjuguer maîtrise des dépenses militaires et maintien de l'Europe à la pointe du progrès scientifique et technique ? Les évolutions récentes dans les relations entre État et marché ouvrent-elles la voie à de nouvelles formes de concrétisation de l'effort scientifique et technologique ? |

| Summary, etc. | Research and defence. Towards a new paternship? The end of the Cold War weakened the relationship created between science and defence after World War II. Credits for defence R&D have been regularly reduced through the 1990s. Indeed armed forces' requirements for innovation and technology have evolved compared to the second half of the 20th century. Nevertheless they remain important since armed forces might face potential, emerging threats and have to manage new kinds of missions. Can a new partnership between science and defence be the solution in Europe to conjugate constrained military expenditures and a true, international leadership in science and technology? Do recent trends in relations between States and markets open the way for new forms of scientific and technological effort? |
