| Summary, etc. | La société Schneider, fondée en 1836, par Eugène et Alphonse Schneider est présentée dans le cadre de cet article pour répondre à une double préoccupation scientifique. D’une part les liens étroits entre le développement industriel et le militaire, d’autre part les fondements de la décision individuelle à partir du concept du capital social. Dès sa création, Schneider se développe grâce au chemin de fer, puis après la défaite de 1870, invente et fabrique le « canon de la victoire », le 75, qui fera sa renommée nationale et internationale. Si les Schneider sont issus de la bourgeoisie, ils doivent leur réussite professionnelle en grande partie aux riches réseaux de relations tissés avec le pouvoir. Le concept du capital social, qui se décompose en un capital-connaissance, un capitalfinancier et un capital-relations, tend à montrer l’importance du capital-relations comme facteur de mobilisation du capitalfinancier. | Summary, etc. | The businessman and the military sector, An analysis based on the concept of social capital. The Schneider case The Schneider company, founded in 1836, by Eugène and Alphonse Schneider is presented in this article as an answer to a double scientific issue. On the first hand, we analyse the tight links between industrial development and military activity, and in the other hand the basis of the individual decision from the social capital. Railways were Schneider’s first main activity. After the defeat of 1870, Schneider invented and manufactured the “cannon of the victory”, the 75, which made its national and international success. The Schneiders belong to the middle class, but to succeed, they developed strong links with the State. The concept of the social capital is the basis of our demonstration. In our definition, the social capital is made in three parts: knowledge capital, financial capital and relationship capital. Relationship seem to be determining for accessing to financial capital. The family, giving knowledge (by the education) and financial support to their members, is the basis of this process. |
