| Summary, etc. | RésuméProgrammer la recherche est une idée relativement récente, du moins à grande échelle, que l’on peut dater avec précision. Dans cet article, nous abordons quelques aspects de cette thématique, en particulier le rôle des scientifiques, la contribution des programmes européens et la programmation de la recherche au niveau politique. Nous terminons par quelques réflexions sur le contrôle social et sociétal de la technoscience pour conclure par cette question qui figure au centre du développement technoscientifique : contrôler la marche du progrès a-t-il un sens ? Et pour aller dans quel sens ? Dans une société qui repose aussi étroitement (et aussi peu démocratiquement) sur la science et la technologie, notre seule marge de manœuvre se réduit-elle à anticiper l’évolution technoscientifique et à nous adapter à celle-ci ? | Summary, etc. | Research programming: easy, but impossibleResearch programming is a relatively new concept, at least at large scale and in terms of policy, whose origin can be precisely dated back. In this chapter, we address some issues related to research programming, in particular the role of scientists, the contribution of European programs and the status of current European policies. At the end, we provide some ideas on the social and societal control of “technoscience” and we raise the following question: is the control of ‘progress’ meaningful at all? And if the answer is ‘yes’, do we know which way we go? As our society deeply and directly relies on science and technology (also in a rather undemocratic way), we challenge the idea that our sole flexibility is to prepare and adapt ourselves to their advancement.
