520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Mill and Freud – Pioneers of Women’s Lib ? A few years before going on her training course with J.M.Charcot, whose work with hysterical women he was following, Freud, still then a student, was given the last volume of J.S. Mill’s works to translate. This volume contained – among others – a revolutionary text called The Enfranchisement of Women (1851). Although Freud only made one reference to two of Mill’s works and never referred to any other influence the philosopher may have had on his thinking, we might be led to assume that this translation had a far more extensive effect on Freud’s ideas on the question of women in society than he might lead us to believe. Male prejudices do not disappear immediately, but Freud’s resistance before the idea of woman as an alter ego does suffer slightly.
