520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. On the First Transgression This article sets forward a reading of the second and third chapters of the Book of Genesis, based on the question of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil which gives rise to the first interdiction and the first transgression. I will attempt to show how an originary story of this type speaks volumes to us psychoanalysts about what I will term the relational make-up of human beings. We will look then at the genesis of the human subject and the necessary role of language in this, before considering the dialectics of knowledge and ignorance from the perspective of knowledge and the unknowable. From the standpoint of these conditions necessary to the emergence of the subject ‘I’, we will look at the part played by the transgression effectuated by the verbal action of the serpent.
