Ces mérites qui nous distinguent (Michalon, 2008). Cet ouvrage est en fait une longue méditation sur le thème de la supériorité de l’Europe. L’argumentaire repose sur le paradoxe suivant : ce qui fait la supériorité de notre culture est qu’elle seule reconnaît l’égalité de toutes les cultures. |

| Summary, etc. | Questioning Western superiority This paper is the rewriting of my notes for preparing the Alain Finkielkraut’s radio broadcast Répliques on the 7th June 2008 untitled « Thinking Europe ». This broadcast was devoting to discuss the Jacques Dewitte’s book, L’Exception européenne. Ces mérites qui nous distinguent (The European Exception. Those merits which distinguish us) (Michalon, 2008). The book is in fact a long meditation upon the theme of European superiority. The whole argument is the paradoxical one : European superiority comes from the fact that only Europe recognizes the equality of all the cultures. |
