| Summary, etc. | Depuis le Concile Vatican II, le ministère d’exorcisme a connu des évolutions importantes. Il est passé d’une tendance dite « diabolisante » à une tendance dite « psychologisante ». Aujourd’hui, le prêtre‑exorciste cherche surtout à aider les personnes venues le trouver à ne pas voir le diable partout. Mais entre les directives de l’institution et les attentes des personnes venues le consulter, le prêtre‑exorciste doit chaque jour élaborer des solutions personnalisées. Il est donc tout autant prêtre, psychothérapeute et chasseur de démon. Car aujourd’hui, c’est en devenant passeur de frontières qu’il établit et renforce la légitimité de son ministère. |

But in between the catholic instructions and the popular expectations, the exorcist‑priest has to negotiate individual solutions. He is at once a priest, a psychotherapist and a devil hunter. Always, on the margins, he invents a new therapeutic system. |

| Summary, etc. | Un ministerio de chapuza ritual. El caso de un exorcista diocesano Desde el Concilio Vaticano II, el ministerio del exorcismo ha conocido evoluciones importantes. Ha pasado de una tendencia dicha “diabolizante” a una tendencia “psichologizante”. Hoy en día, el sacerdote‑exorcista trata sobre todo de ayudar a las personas que llegan a verle a no ver el diablo por todas partes. Pero, entre las directivas de la institución y lo que esperan las personas que vienen a consultarle, el sacerdote‑exorcista debe cada día elaborar soluciones personalizadas. Es al mismo tiempo sacerdote, psicoterapeuta y exorcista. Así pues establece y refuerza la legitimidad de su ministerio haciéndose ahora pasador de fronteras. |

| Summary, etc. | Ein Ministerium rituellen Heimwerkertums. Das Fallbeispiel eines diözesanen ExorzistenSeit dem Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil hat das Exorzismus‑Ministerium viele Änderungen erfahren. Die sogenannten „Verteuflung“ hat sich zu einem „psychologisierenden“ Ansatz weiterentwickelt. Heute versucht der praktizierende Priester vor allen Dingen die betroffene Person davon abzubringen, den Teufel überall zu sehen. Gefangen zwischen den institutionellen Leitlinien und den Erwartungen der Betroffenen muss der Exorzist jeden Tag personalisierte Lösungen finden. Er ist dementsprechend zugleich Priester, Psychotherapeut und Teufelsaustreiber. Indem er Grenzen übertrifft, etabliert und verstärkt er die Legitimität seines Ministeriums. |
