Summary, etc. From the Middle Ages to the beginning of the modern era, within Persian language spirituality, there developed powerful currents of thought centered on the notion of interior freedom. This is principally based on a refined psychology wherein the cardinal virtue would seem to be sincerity. This article is devoted to three of these currents: the Malâmatiyya, the poetic tradition of provocation, and the mysticism of “absolute detachment.”
